Anime Like Castlevania: 8 Dark Gothic Shows to Watch Next
Castlevania proved that an anime-style show could be gothic, gory and genuinely moving at the same time. If you've finished it (and Nocturne) and you're chasing that same mix of candlelit castles, monster hunters and moral rot, these are the shows to watch next.
1. Castlevania: NocturneNetflix · 2023
The obvious first stop if you haven't seen it yet. The story jumps to revolutionary France and follows Richter Belmont, with the same studio, the same blood-soaked style and a new generation of vampire hunters.
Same world, same creative team, new era.
2. Hellsing UltimateOVA series · 2006–2012
A secret British organization hunts monsters using a monster of its own: Alucard, a vampire so overpowered he's terrifying to his own side. Operatic, violent and soaked in gothic atmosphere.
If your favorite part of Castlevania was the vampires being scary, start here.
3. Vampire Hunter D: BloodlustFilm · 2000
A lone half-vampire hunter crosses a far-future wasteland ruled by vampire nobility. Gorgeous, melancholy and one of the most beautiful gothic anime films ever made.
The closest thing to Castlevania's art-house horror in a single movie.
4. BerserkSeries · 1997
A mercenary named Guts rises through a brutal medieval war alongside a charismatic commander with dangerous ambitions. Slow-burning, then devastating.
Dark fantasy that hits as hard emotionally as Castlevania's best seasons.
5. Devilman CrybabyNetflix · 2018
A sensitive teenager merges with a demon to fight demons, and the world falls apart around him. Wild, stylish and not for the faint of heart.
For fans of Castlevania's darker, nothing-is-safe storytelling.
6. ClaymoreSeries · 2007
Half-human warrior women are hired to kill the shape-shifting monsters that prey on villages, and every one of them is one step away from becoming a monster herself.
Monster hunters with a tragic cost, just like the Belmonts.
7. Blood: The Last VampireFilm · 2000
A short, sharp horror-action film about a sword-wielding girl hunting vampire-like creatures on an American air base in 1960s Japan.
A quick, moody watch when you want vampires in under an hour.
